Green Goes Down

When Jacob Green made a trip to the 3-2-1A state wrestling tournament last year as a freshman, he knew it wouldn’t be his last appearance there. Things took a sudden turn when the 220 pound sophomore took a wrong step and went down with a devastating injury.

“I stepped back to push off for a shot and tore my ACL and meniscus. Immediately, I thought of the team and how it was going to affect them,” Green said.

Norton, looking for their 15th state title, will be missing points Green would have added to the team. This will result in other members having to step up and contribute more to the team.

“My injury will affect [my team] point wise but Jordan Dole and Collyn Auker have stepped it up to get some big points,” Green also stated.

Though the injury has affected the team, they have done their best to stay positive and stay focused on the state title.

“We can’t sulk over one person being gone. You know, it’s a huge loss but we still have 10 guys down here that need attention as well,” Coach Johnson said.

Green, who has wrestled since the early age of 6, will have to sit out for the first time in 10 years. He hopes that this injury will be for the better and hopes that something good will come out of it.

“Everything happens for a reason, so I hope it’s for a good reason,” said Green.

Losing a dynamic player like Green really put a damper on the team but everyone looks forward for his return of next year.
“My expectation for next season are coming back stronger and compete for a state title individually and as a team,” Green said.
