Ellis Jr. High Girls Basketball vs. Phillipsburg

The Ellis Jr. High school girls basketball team played their first home game on 11-1-18 against a very tough Phillipsburg team.  Phillipsburg took the lead early in the varsity game and never looked back.  The final score was Phillipsburg 48 to Ellis 16.  Coach Butler commented “Phillipsburg has a great well-balanced team.  We struggled with stopping the fast break and their inside was doing a superb job against us.”

Leading scorer for Ellis was Emily Eck with nine, Macy Eberle had four, Natalie Schumacher had two and Myah McCoy had one point.  Leading rebounder was Eck with eight, McCoy had three, Schumacher and Harlie Bittel each had two.  Eberle, Kylee Pfeifer and Hannah Schiel each had one.

In the junior varsity contest, Ellis came out on top 17 to Phillipsburg 11.  Leading scorer for Ellis was Jennifer Cunningham with ten points.  Emily James added three points and McCoy and KayDawn Haag each had two points.  Leading rebounder for Ellis was Braelyn Born with eight.  James brought down four boards and McCoy and Haag each had three.  Cunningham and Trinity Kohlrus each had two rebounds and Anna Moore had one.

In the C-game, lost to Phillipburg in a close game, with Phillipsburg’s score of 10 to Ellis six.  Toccara Boyce, Born and Kohlrus each had two points.  Boyce, Born and Sydney Redetzke each had six rebounds.  Ava Reed, Chelsea Herrington and Kohlrus each had three boards and Melody Swagerty had one.  Ellis actually out-rebounded Phillipsburg 28 to 14.
