EJH Girls Basketball defeats Oakley


The Ellis Jr. High Girls Basketball traveled to Oakley on 10-30-18.  The varsity and junior varsity teams won and the C-team lost.  In the varsity game, the first half was a low scoring half for both teams.  The second half, Ellis put defensive pressure on the Oakley Plainsmen and pulled out ahead and never looked back.  Ellis was able to put their bench in for part of the fourth quarter.  Final score was Ellis 22 to Oakley 11.

Leading scorer for Ellis was Emily Eck with 13 points, five of those being free-throws.  MaKenna Kohl, Kylee Pfeifer, Natalie Schomacher and Harlie Bittel each had two points and Hannah Schiel had one.  Leading rebounder for Ellis was Kohl with eight.  Eck, Schiel, and Pfeifer each had four boards followed by Schumacher and Bittel with three, Myah Mccoy and Jennifer Cunningham each with two and KayDawn Haag with one.  Overall, Ellis out-rebounded Oakley 31 to 24 boards.

Coach Sheryl Butler said that Ellis adjusted to changes that needed to be made during timeouts which was impressive.  She was also pleased with how Ellis handled Oakley’s pressure and how well Ellis pressured Oakley in the second half.

The Ellis J.V. team lead at the half 13 to 6 with a final score of Ellis 20 to Oakley 11.  Leading scorer for Ellis was Jennifer Cunningham with with points followed by Emily James with four.  Macy Eberle, Braelyn Born, Haag and Trinity Kohlrus had two point a piece.  Leading rebounder was Born with 12.  James had seven boards followed by McCoy with six.  Haag had three rebounds and Cunningham had two.

In the C-game, leading scorer was Kohlrus with three.  Ava Reed, Toccara Boyce, and Born each had two points each.  Leading rebounder was Kohlrus with six.  Boyce and Born each had five, Reed had four and Sydney Redetzke had one.  Final score for the C-game was Oakley 19 to Ellis 9.
