Junior High JV Tournament

The Ellis Jr. High girls Junior Varsity basketball team played in the Phillipsburg JV Tournament on Saturday Dec. 12, 2020. Ellis played TMP J.V. in the first round, which the two teams had just played each other earlier in the week. Ellis was wanting to fair better than the contest earlier in the week but ended up losing to TMP 31 to 10. Leading scorer for Ellis was Raegan Jiminez with four followed by Sienna Schmidt, Grace Brull and Leah Reed each with two points. Leading rebounder for Ellis was Gracelyn Hamel with eight. Avery Boydston and Raegan Jiminez each had four. Brull, Kia Mader, Reed and Payten Burd each had one board. In the second round of the tournament, Ellis played Phillipsburg for a much tighter contest, similar to the contest between the two teams a little over a week earlier. Ellis trailed Phillipsburg throughout the game but mostly kept it close losing to P-burg 18 to 15. Leading scorer for Ellis was Jiminez with six points followed by Brull with five. Schmidt and Reed each added two points. Leading rebounder for Ellis was Mader with eight boards. Boydston had four rebounds followed by Jiminez with three, Hamel, Brull and Reed each had two and Burd had one.

The boys B team traveled to Phillipsburg on Saturday for their annual tournament.  In the first game it was TMP defeating Ellis by a score of TMP 35 and Ellis 28.  Scoring the B team were Austin Gilbert 9, Gus Peine 7, Landon Harmon 7, Chason Fabrizius 4, and Jaren Frickey 1.  Peine led Ellis in rebounds with 6 followed by Fabrizius 5, Harmon 5, Frickey 3, Brody Fischer 2, and Gilbert 2.

In the second game of the day it was Hoxie defeating Ellis.  The final score was Hoxie 28 and Ellis 24.  Scoring the Ellis were Gus Peine 7, Austin Gilbert 6, Joel Schiel 3, Tyler Bongartz 2, Jaren Frickey 2,  Chason Fabrizius 2 and Harmon 2.  Harmon grabbed 6 rebounds followed by Gilbert 4, Fabrizius 3 Schiel 1, and Peine 1.  “The team played hard but fell short in both games.  Both games were close.  In the Hoxie game we led all the way until the fourth quarter.  Hoxie outscored Ellis by 7 to get the win” stated Coach Wolf
