JH Girls Basketball Against Oakley

The Ellis Jr. High girls’ basketball started their season winning all three contests played against Oakley on Oct. 30th.  In the varsity game, Ellis was down by two after the first quarter but came back in the second quarter ahead 12 to 10 at the half.  Ellis continued to add distance in the third quarter ahead 25 to 16.  Ellis started to get a little cold in the fourth quarter and worked to get time off of the clock.  Ellis won the contest 27 to 21.

Leading scorer for Ellis was Lakyn Fischer with 14 points, Emily Eck had nine.  Maddy Guffey and Haley Schmidt each had two points.  Leading rebounder for Ellis was Fischer with nine boards.  Schmidt followed with eight.  Guffey had six rebounds, Eck had four and Trenyce Boyce had two.

Coach Sheryl Butler said that she was pleased with how the team ran their offense and was patient to get the open shots.  “Lakyn (Fischer) had a great night in her outside shooting as well as Emily (Eck).  All of the team did a good job running the offense and getting the open players the ball as well as shutting down their offense inside,” said Butler.

In the J.V. game, Ellis led at the half 14 to 4.  Ellis continued to add points to the board each quarter winning the game 17 to nine.   Leading scorer for Ellis was Michelle Gottschalk with eight point all from the outside.  Hannah Schiel added four.  Madison Gottschalk and Natalie Schumacher each had two points and Makenna Kohl added one point.  Leading rebounders for Ellis was Kohl and Madison Gottschalk each with five boards.  Harlie Bittel had three, Schumacher, Michelle Gottschalk and Myah McCoy each had two rebounds and Schiel had one.

In the C-team contest, Ellis won four to two.  Kohl and Anna Moore each contributed four points.  McCoy lead in rebounding with three, followed by Khianne Schaus and Bittel each with two.  Moore, Toccara Boyce and Kohl each had one rebound.
