JH Round Robin at Phillipsburg

The Ellis Jr. High girls J.V. basketball team competed in the J.V. Tournament held at Phillipsburg on Dec. 9, 2017.  The tournament was a round robin with three teams participating.  In the first game, the Ellis J.V. went right to a eight to three lead by the end of the first quarter.  Ellis continued to build on their lead to 14 while keeping the Panthers to three points going into the half.  The hold on the Panthers continued into the third quarter keeping Phillipsburg to three points while increasing Ellis' score to 20.  The final score of the contest with Ellis winning at 22 points to Phillipsburg's 15. 

Leading scorer for Ellis was Michelle Gottschalk with 12 points.  Makenna Kohl had six and Madison Gottschalk had four.  Leading rebounder for Ellis was Madison Gottschalk with ten.  Hannah Schiel and Michelle Gottschalk each had six.  Kohl had three boards and Natalie Schumacher had one.

Ellis had ten minutes in-between the Phillipsburg game to take on the TMP Monarch J.V. team.  Ellis had a good start leading at the first quarter four to two.  TMP continued to pressure keeping Ellis to four points going into the half with TMP on top with eight.  TMP continued to put the pressure on Ellis leading at the third quarter 12 to six.  Ellis lost the game with the final score being Ellis eight to TMP 18.

Coach Sheryl Butler commented on the game, “Our girls did a great job.  Ellis was put in a position of playing back to back, very intense court pressure games.  Our girls were tired, which is understandable and difficult to keep that intensity up with a ten minute break in-between.”

Leading scorer for Ellis was Michelle Gottschalk with three points, followed by Schiel and Madison Gottschalk with two and Harlie Bittel had one.  Leading rebounder for Ellis was Michelle Gottschalk with nine followed by Schiel with seven.  Kohl had five boards, Madison Gottschalk had four and Bittel had three.

The next games for Ellis includes varsity, J.V. and C teams on December 14th at home against the Stockton Tigers.   Ellis concludes their season on Dec. 18th against Victoria.
