Ellis Jr. High Girls Basketball vs. Norton

The Ellis Jr. High school girls basketball team played Norton, in Ellis on 11-20-17.

In the varsity game, Ellis again came up just short of a win, losing by two points.  Ellis was ahead eight  to two after the first quarter.  The second quarter, Norton came back, 13 to 15 with Ellis going in at the half ahead by two.  The third quarter proved to be a problem quarter for Ellis as Norton pulled ahead by the end of the quarter 27 to 21.  Ellis held Norton to two points in the fourth quarter and added six to theirs but came up short in the final seconds losing to Norton 27 to 29.  Ellis has continued to have very close games with four games ending up with only a two-three point margin.

Coach Sheryl Butler said, “We did a good job keeping their big girl toned down tonight.  Our defense actually did really well.  Our downfall was mostly our turnovers on the offense.”

Lakyn Fischer was the lead scorer, scoring 12 points.  Emily Eck had six points followed by Michelle Gottschalk with five.  Hannah Schiel came in and added two points and Treynce Boyce and Haley Schmidt each had one.  Leading rebounder was Fischer with 13 boards.  Schmidt had nine rebounds.  Eck and Boyce each had five and Gottschalk had four.  Ellis out-rebounded Norton, in spite of Norton's height advantage with Ellis having 36 rebounds to Norton's 18.

The J.V. contest was a closer game than what the scoreboard felt like.  Ellis ended up losing to Norton eight to 16.  Ellis led at the half eight to four.  Norton held Ellis scoreless and added twelve points in the half to win the game.  Leading scorer for Ellis was Gottschalk with four points.  Schiel and Harlie Bittel each had two.  Leading rebounder for Ellis was MaKenna Kohl with nine rebounds followed by Schiel with seven.  Natalie Schmacher had four borads and Myah McCoy and Madison Gottschalk each had three.

In the C contest, Ellis won 12 to 0.  Leading scorer for Ellis was Schumacher with four.  Khianne Schaus, Kohl, Madison Gottschalk and Anna Moore each had two points.  Leading rebounder for Ellis was Schumacher with eight boards.  Madison Gottschalk and Moore each had two.  Schaus, Kohl and McCoy each had one rebound.
