Jr High Girls Basketball vs Trego

The Ellis Jr. High girls’ basketball team traveled to Trego on 11-9-17 and played a lot of “extra” basketball.  All three games went into overtime.

In the varsity game, the contest went back and forth throughout.  Ellis led in the first quarter, eight to five.  Trego came back and led at the half 18 to 14.  The battle continued with Ellis tying the score toward the end of regulation play, 31 to 31.  In overtime, Trego ended up with one 3-point basket and three free-throws to Ellis' one basket for Trego to win the contest in overtime, 37 to 33.

Coach Sheryl Butler said, “This was a hard fought battle throughout the entire game.  The girls played hard every minute they were out there.  I'm so proud of how all three teams played tonight.”

Grace Eck was the leading scorer, with 17 points.  Lakyn Fisher was next in scoring with eight.  Maddey Guffey had four points.  Haley Schmidt and Treynce Boyce each had two.  Leading rebounder was Guffey with 10.  Schmidt followed with seven, Boyce had four, Fischer and Eck each had two and Michelle Gottschalk had one board.

The J.V. contest was another overtime contest.  The score was close at the half with Ellis having four points to Trego's five.  Ellis slipped behind in the third quarter with nine points to Trego's 14.  The score ended up tied 20 to 20 at the end of regulation play with a buzzer shot going in made by Hannah Schiel.  In overtime, Ellis added six more points and kept Trego from scoring for a final score, Ellis 26 to Trego 20.   Leading scorer was Michelle Gottschalk with 12 points.  Schiel had six point, Harlie Bittle followed with four and MaKenna Kohl and Natalie Schumacher each had two.  Leading rebounder was Schiel with eight boards.  Kohl, Madison Gottschalk and Michelle Gottschalk all had six rebounds.  Schumacher had four rebounds and Bittel had three.

In the C contest, Ellis and Trego tied at the end of the first two quarters, four to four.  Trego added a free throw in overtime making the final score, Trego five to Ellis four.  Leading scorer for Ellis was Anna Moore and Kohl each with two points.   Leading rebounder for Ellis was Khianne Schaus with six rebounds.  Madison Gottschalk, Moore and Schumacher each had three.  Toccara Boyce and Bittel each had two boards and Kohl and Myah McCoy each had one.
