JH Girls Basketball vs Hill City

The Ellis Jr. High girls basketball played Hill City on 11-14-17 and once again kept the Ellis fans on edge losing to Hill City by only three points.   Ellis continues to struggle with shots not falling.  Ellis was up by two at the first quarter but was scoreless in the second quarter, going into halftime down by eight points.  The third quarter was much the same but Ellis fought back hard in the fourth quarter getting to within three but just ran out of time.  Ellis had the opportunity for 12 points from the line in the fourth quarter but was only able to make four of those.

Coach Sheryl Butler commented, “Overall, our defense looks good, we are working together on the offense – our problem is getting those shots to fall and to take advantage of our free throws as well.  I will be doing some work with the girls on our shooting so that we can improve that area.  One of our starters, Maddy Guffey had a medical issue late this afternoon so Michelle Gottschalk and Hannah Schiel stepped up and did their part.  They both have been ready to take the next step.  I am real proud of all of them.”

Leading scorer for Ellis was shared with Gottschalk and Lakyn Fischer with six points followed by Emily Eck with five.  Haley Schmidt had two points and Schiel had one.  Leading rebounder for Ellis was Fischer with 11 boards followed by Schmidt and Gottschalk each with 10.  Treynce Boyce had eight rebounds.  Eck had three boards and Schiel had one.

The J.V. game was a low scoring one.  Ellis came out on top 12 to Hill City eight.  The score at the half was Ellis six to Hill City four.  Leading scorer for Ellis was Harlie Bittel with five points.  Schiel had three and Gottschalk and Natalie Schumacher each had two.  Leading rebounder for Ellis was Madison Gottschalk with seven rebounds followed by MaKenna Kohl with six.  Schiel had four boards, Bittel had three and Schumacher and Myah McCoy each had two.

In the C-game, Ellis struggled against Hill City's deep bench.  Ellis was only able to score two points to Hill City's 28.  Schumacher had the only two points for Ellis.  Leading rebounder for Ellis was Madison Gottschalk with four.  Kohl had three boards, Khianne Schaus and Anna Moore each had two.  Bittle had one rebound.
