EHS State Lifting

The Ellis High School powerlifting team completed their season at the 1A 11 Man football state championships Saturday in Marion. Unfortunately, some of the team members were not able to compete for various reasons but the five members that did had a great day. They were able to bring home twelve medals and a plaque. Madison Gottschalk was able to place second in the bench with a lift of 130 pounds and her overall total of 425 pounds was good enough to earn her the third place medal. Emma Gilbert placed third in the squat with a lift of 205 pounds and her overall total of 430 pounds earned her a third place medal overall also. “I am looking for good things to come from these girls in the years to come with both of them only being freshmen.”

The boys had three lifters at the meet and all did very well. George Crawford placed second in all three lifts, but was able to earn the state championship with his 610-pound total on the day. “George has improved at every meet he was able to compete in this year and also has three more years just being a freshman.” Trey Hudson capped his lifting career with a new overall total of 800 pounds on the three lifts. His 220-pound bench, 355-pound squat and 225-pound clean all earned him first place medals and the overall best lifter for the smaller weight division. “Trey missed a few of his final lifts or his total would have even been higher.” Cade Lewis competed in his first lifting meet of his career and was able to earn the gold in the clean with a lift of 285 pounds.
