Railer Boys go to Overtime Against Oakley

On Tuesday, February 21, the Oakley Plainsmen traveled to Ellis to play in a rematch of earlier this year. This first quarter was a close one with plenty of points being scored. Ellis pulled out ahead but Oakley buried two three pointers to keep it a 2 point game going into the second quarter. Tougher defense was the key to the second quarter, and both teams brought it. the scoring slowed down but the game stayed close. Both teams scored 12 points to keep it a 2 point game going into half, the scored being 29 to 27. The third quarter was a good one for Ellis. They outscored the Plainsmen 14 to 7 to end the third. The Railers felt good going into the fourth with a 9 point lead, but thats when Oakley cuaght fire. The Plainsmen jumped out quickly and cut it to a 3 point game. When Ellis finally got their footing and were able to put up some points Oakley just kept scoring. There were fouls both ways in the last two minutes of the game. Ellis made a good amount of their free throws but were one short making it a two possesion game heading into the last possession. Ellis, only up 3, Oakley with the ball. as the clock starting ticking from about eleven seconds left oakley ran players of multiple ball screens until they kicked out to their man. Jace Engel caught the ball, pump faked and took one dribble over and drilled the buzzer beater to send it into overtime. Oakley outscore Ellis 24 to 15 in the fourth quarter. Easton won the tip to start overtime and Ellis pushed the ball fast and got a good quick look that Derek Pfeifer knocked down. Ellis stuck tough man defense and got the ball back. Feik then drove right down the middle and made a great layup to put Ellis up more. Once again Ellis got another stop Easton was able to draw a foul. Oakley finally scored off free throws but Ellis had all the momentum and rode it out to a victory. Ellis scored 19 overtime points in the 4 minutes of overtime play. The Final score was 77 to 68 in favor of Ellis.
